Intolerance & Discrimination Against the Scientology Community in Germany Today


  • 1993: Mrs. H. and her brother T. were denounced by fellow members of a riding club for being Scientologists. Later they found that the tires of their cars had been slashed. One week later T.’s tires were slashed again.

  • 1993: Anti-Scientology slogans were painted on the home of Scientologists Mr. and Mrs. J. and their family. Their car was also damaged.

  • March 1993, Hamburg: A real estate company in Hamburg run by Scientologists was broken into. A desk was vandalized with drawers opened and rummaged through.

  • May 1993, Hamburg: Scientologists who run a real estate company in Hamburg have been harassed many times. Banners have been put on their walls stating, “Caution — trap...Scientology” and “Warning — Scientology bought here.” A rotten egg was thrown at a potential customer to scare him off.

  • June 1993, Hamburg: Two troublemakers destroyed an information stand in front of the Church of Scientology in Hamburg, attacking a Scientologist who came by to find out what was happening. Two other Scientologists forced them to leave. They then went to a parking lot beside the Church and overturned and damaged property.

  • June 1993: The front door and yard gate of a Scientologist’s home was sprayed with the words “Scientology pig,” causing damage amounting to 3.000 DM.

  • June 1993, Hamburg: Vandals spray-painted the windows of a building rented by the Church of Scientology in Hamburg. They also vandalized cars in the parking lot.

  • July 1993, Hamburg: A letter was received by the Church of Scientology in Hamburg: “Your place will be blown up but only when fully crowded so that no Jew will survive.”

  • January 1994: Mrs. Z. showed a copy of the book Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health to the head of an insurance company, who tore it up, screamed at her to get out and refused to pay for the destroyed book.

  • February 1994: The window of a Scientology mission was smashed by a stone wrapped in a pamphlet. The writer of the pamphlet stated that his purpose was “to extinguish” Scientology.

  • February 1994, Hamburg: A Scientology information stand in Hamburg was vandalized by young people who tore booklets to pieces. The youths warned the Scientologists that “we don’t want this ‘shit’ from the sect here.”

  • April 1994: Mrs. B., a Scientologist, received an anonymous and threatening letter. When her husband took her car in for an inspection the following day, the mechanic found the brake lines had been severely damaged by a saw.

  • June 1994, Hamburg: Mr. S. was distributing Scientology literature near the Church of Scientology in Hamburg, when a man suddenly attacked him, striking him in the face. The attacker seized the Scientology literature and threw it in the trash. A second attacker joined in. Together they drove the Scientologist away, warning him never to come back again.
