Intolerance & Discrimination Against the Scientology Community in Germany Today

  • 1995, Hamburg: A missionary of the Church of Scientology in Hamburg reported about 100 incidents where he was spat at, called a “Nazi pig” and a “dirty dog,” told, “you should go to the gas chambers” and where he was physically threatened.

  • April 1995, Düsseldorf: The Church of Scientology in Düsseldorf received a letter threatening that the building would be blown up by a well-known Neo-Nazi group. The letter was signed, “Heil Hitler,” with a swastika.

  • May 1995: The spokesperson of the Church of Scientology Germany, S. W., received an anonymous phone call. She was called a “Nazi pig” and a “cheap whore.”

  • May 1995, Munich: The receptionist at the Church of Scientology in Munich received an anonymous phone call. The person stated “I wish you to soon die a wretched death. Something will blow up at your place soon!”

  • May 1995, Munich: The receptionist in the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre Munich received an anonymous phone call. The person repeatedly threatened to blow up the organization and stated that the Scientologists had better move out of the building.

  • October 1995, Hamburg: An information stand belonging to the Church was attacked by a group of 15 soccer fans in the center of Hamburg. They tore up Scientology magazines and threw them to the ground. Various passers-by observed this incident, some of whom complained loudly that Scientology should not be allowed to have an information stand. One hour later, a far bigger group of 70 soccer fans passed the stand. They threw half-filled beer bottles at the stand and about half a dozen fireworks, while bawling anti-Scientology slogans.

  • October 1995, Nuremberg: A man called the Mission of Scientology in Nuremberg telling the receptionist, “You will blow up. Report this to the police — you will blow up in three hours.” Then he hung up. The police were called and five to six policemen searched through the mission premises and the stairwell but found nothing. This bomb threat occurred directly after a TV show in which Federal Minister of Labor Norbert Blüm denounced Scientology, using false allegations that were repeated by the anonymous caller.

  • November 1995, Hamburg: A form, normally sent back to the Church of Scientology to order a copy of the Dianetics book, was mailed to the Church of Scientology in Hamburg with a message from “Alfred Lehmann.” It stated, “If you won’t stop the annoyances in Sachsen — Mrs. Janssen will be killed by a hand grenade!!! The convicted stock of the Soviet Army is strong enough to kill the whole gang.”

  • November 1995, Hamburg: An anonymous letter came in to the Church of Scientology in Hamburg, addressed to the Church’s vice president. The letter said, “You cannot watch your breeding-grounds day and night. It would be senseless, anyway. Our guys have learned in Bosnia how to handle ‘something like this’ — short but painful. I’m willing to use a large share of my assets to equip the commandos to exterminate you.”

  • November 1995, Frankfurt: A Scientologist in Frankfurt reported that his wife received a phone call: “You dirty Scientology swines — take a fire-extinguisher with you to bed tonight — you will need it.”

  • November 1995, Frankfurt: Mrs. C., representative of the Human Rights Office of the Church of Scientology, received a phone call from a man threatening to “eradicate” her.

  • December 1995: An anonymous missive arrived in the Church, scrawled across a copy of the Church magazine, Freedom . It stated, “All Scientologists should go into the gas chambers! Into the incinerator.”

  • December 1995: An anonymous postcard claimed that Scientologists and Moslems should be forbidden. “I wish Hitler and his regime would rise again, rule Germany for one year and take this crowd to where they belong,” said the writer.

Murder, bomb and kidnapping threats continued...
