Religious Apartheid: 1996 – Official Repression of Minority Religious Rights in Germany

hese incidents are but examples of the current discrimination experienced on a daily basis by Scientologists in Germany. Religious persecution of Scientologists as well as parishioners of other minority religions is pervasive and reaches into all levels of German society. The evidence shows that the German government continues to initiate, guide and sustain discriminatory policies designed to ensure that all strata of society work together to ostracize Scientologists socially, economically, and culturally due to their beliefs.

The prevalence of systemic and serious human rights abuses directed at Scientologists in Germany is beyond dispute. Scientologists in Germany are subject to daily abuse and official discrimination simply due to their exercise of fundamental right to practice the religion of their choice.

As the German government has refused to comply with legally binding human rights instruments protecting the rights of the Church’s parishioners, it is necessary for concerned citizens, human rights groups, governments and international bodies to take effective action so that the rights of minority religious members in Germany are restored and the pattern and practice of official repression ends.
