Religious Apartheid 1997 – Continuing Official Repression of Minority Religious Rights in Germany
The CDU Young Union publishes and disseminates a chilling booklet entitled Insects - No Thank You! which depicts insects, supposed to be minority religions in Germany, about to be exterminated by a fly swatter held in the hands of the Young Union.
In June 1996, a “sect-expert” from the CDU Young Union made a speech in an anti-Scientology Young Union event in Hamburg which included the chilling statement that “insects like Scientology need to be eradicated from society.”80

A postcard received in December 1995 stated that Moslems and Scientologists should be chased from Germany with a stick, and that Hitler’s regime should “rise” to bring “this rubbish where they belong.” Another letter received in December stated that all Scientologists should “go into the gas chambers.”81
In November 1995, the then-Vice President of the Church of Scientology in Hamburg, received an anonymous letter threatening torture and “extermination.” Likewise, the Church of Scientology in Hamburg received a letter threatening to kill all Scientologists and to blow up one woman Church parishioner in Sachsen with a hand grenade.82 Also in November, a woman parishioner in Frankfurt received an anonymous phone threat in which she was called a “dirty Scientology swine” and told to “take a fire extinguisher to bed tonight—you will need it”; in addition, a woman in the Church’s human rights office in Hamburg received a phone call from someone who stated that “we will eradicate you.”83
These recent incidents are greatly outnumbered by small-scale instances of harassment and intimidation of Scientologists which occur on a regular basis and largely go unreported to authorities. A general atmosphere of fear, intimidation and harassment exists for parishioners of minority religions in Germany today. Unfortunately, the use of hate speech directed at Scientologists by prominent German politicians provides the impression to extremist elements in German society that violent acts against Scientologists and Scientology Churches are the order of the day. As long as this atmosphere of hate against minority religious movements continues in Germany, Scientologists and members of other minority groups remain at serious risk.![[End of the Text]](img/endy.jpg)
