Church of Scientology Reply to the German Government’s Defense of its Discrimination
Intoduction— Scientology in Germany
The former German government tried to excuse its treatment of Scientologists with statements that have no relevance to the issue. The government has never responded to the detailed documentation of individual cases of discrimination supplied to human rights and governmental organizations by the Church of Scientology.
For no other reason than their religious belief, Scientologists in Germany are prohibited from public service, have been physically abused, are banned from political parties, their businesses are blacklisted in government computers, their children have been harassed and thrown out of schools and kindergartens and artists have been prevented by officials from performing if they were known as Scientologists.
These practices are the legacy of a government which has now been voted out of office. We hope that the new administration will reassert the principles of tolerance and religious freedom.
There is NO justification for discrimination. The German government is in violation of its human rights commitments under the Helsinki Accords, the European Convention on Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
