Germany’s Office for the Protection of the Constitution as an Instrument for Character Assassination
Foreword
These days, the Minister of the Interior, Beckstein, jealously
looks east towards China. The handling of sect members is, in
his view, the only discipline in which communists are more advanced.
Not in regards to the arguments against the Falun Gong Community – “no
religion”, “manipulation of man”, “political ambitions”, “usurpation of
power”, “superstition”, “danger to health and life.” No, those read like
the latest report about minority religions by the Free State of Bavaria.
It is rather the efficiency with which such witchhunts are executed – resulting not only in removal from political parties and official positions, as practiced in this country, but total prohibition, mass arrests and reindoctrination. It is even probable that Beckstein objects to the general view that such measures are typical of a totalitarian police apparatus.
It is remarkable that neither Beckstein nor any other German government official has publicly protested against the brutal suppression of religious beliefs in China. But then, how could they? With what moral authority could Beckstein & Co accuse their comrades in Beijing of human rights violations?
