Religious Apartheid 1997 – Continuing Official Repression of Minority Religious Rights in Germany

Foreword

T
his report is made available by the Human Rights Office of the Church of Scientology. It is a summary of the most recent submissions presented on behalf of the Church of Scientology of Germany to international human rights bodies, including the United Nations and the Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe.

It updates a human rights report entitled Religious Apartheid 1996. As documented in these reports, Scientologists are routinely dismissed from their jobs, dismissed from schools, dismissed from political parties, dismissed from professional associations, dismissed from social organizations, denied the right to professional licenses, denied the right to open bank accounts and obtain loans, denied the right to perform their art, denied the right to use public facilities, blacklisted, boycotted, threatened and assaulted simply due to their personal beliefs and their association with the religion of Scientology.

The purpose of this new report is to apprise the public of new documented cases of minority religious discrimination which are illustrative of the disturbing escalation of human rights violations against individuals who are Scientology parishioners in the Federal Republic of Germany. As the enclosed cases illustrate, the climate of intolerance towards minority religions in Germany continues to substantially deteriorate.

The Church’s earlier report and the documents referred to in the endnotes to this report evidencing a pattern and practice of human rights abuses against Scientologists in Germany are available upon request.
