Letter to German Ambassador to the U.S. about the German government’s latest findings on Scientology and other recent official vindications
Do not “infiltrate” the economy.2
Do not seek “illegal economic profits.”3
Do not violate the healing practitioner law.4
Once again, despite a cost of millions of DMs trying to prove otherwise, investigation has confirmed that there is no evidence of wrongdoing by Scientologists.
The federal government also admits that the use of so-called “sect filters” to deny employment and contractual relations to members of the Church of Scientology has caused a serious problem in international trade relations.5 As you know, the U.S. Trade Representative has placed Germany on the “watch list” of countries engaged in discriminatory trade practices over its use of these filters. Germany faces the prospect of an investigation by the World Trade Organization.
The federal government now has another problem to contend with concerning these filters. The Labor Court in Munich has ruled them illegal, in a decision that the City of Munich has chosen not to appeal. The Labor Court Munich’s ruling follows the ruling of the European Court of Human Rights in Vogt v. Germany (1996). The European Court held that dismissal of a teacher merely because of her membership in a particular organization constituted a violation of the applicant’s right to freedom of expression and association guaranteed by Articles 10 and 11 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
